Rock Glass Pairs Kagami Crystal Edo Kiriko
Edo Kiriko is a type of glass art that has been produced in Edo (Tokyo) since the late Edo period. The superb techniques and designs of Edo Kiriko craftsmen have been passed down to this day. Edo Kiriko is designated as a traditional craft product of Tokyo and a traditional craft product designated by the national government. It is also used in the interior of the Tokyo Skytree, a symbol of Tokyo.
The beautiful patterns of Edo Kiriko, which are created by cutting into the surface of the glass, include not only representative patterns such as “Nanako” (fish roe), “Asa no ha” (hemp leaf), and “Rokkaku kagome” (hexagonal basket), but also various other patterns that fascinate many and are created by each workshop and craftsman. In addition, the sparkle of Edo Kiriko when light is reflected on it is very beautiful and eye-catching.
There are four clear criteria for Edo Kiriko, which were established by the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association1. It must be made of glass,
2. It must be handcrafted
3. A rotating tool must be used in the production process.
4. It must be produced in a designated area.
Only those that meet these criteria and are certified by the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association can be called “Edo Kiriko”.There are other glass art products with the name “kiriko”, but only those that can be called “Edo Kiriko” are the genuine article. Genuine Edo Kiriko is highly valued as a Japanese-made, handcrafted glass art.
