Kinpaku Bari Wine Glass (Gilded Wine Glass)
This wine glass is designed with gold leaf applied to the wine glass.
Over 98% of Japanese gold leaf is produced in Kanazawa. It is said that gold leaf was first produced in Kanazawa in 1593, when Toshiie Maeda, the founder of the Kaga clan, was ordered by Hideyoshi Toyotomi during the Korean war.
It is also said that the reason why Kanazawa has a high share of gold leaf production is that even when the shogunate issued a ban on gold leaf beating, the Kaga clan’s workshops continued to secretly beat gold leaf. As a result, the technology to produce high quality and quantity of gold leaf with limited materials was developed and refined, and excellent skills were cultivated.
